You’ve done your research, looked at websites, read brochures, spoke to friends and family and have now decided to proceed with the first part of your laser eye surgery journey – your consultation.
Your laser eye surgery consultation is not simply an eye test, although we do of course perform several tests on your eyes! It is also a chance to come and meet the team, get a feel for our clinic and reassure yourself that you’ve opted to have surgery with one of the most experienced eye surgeons in the country. It also gives us an opportunity to get to know you a little, to see what you expect from the treatment and why you want to have laser eye surgery in the first instance.
When arriving you’ll be greeted by one of our friendly team and some of your details checked. You can relax in one of our comfortable waiting areas where we have hot and cold drinks available and of course WIFI.
The first part of your laser eye surgery consultation involves undergoing a thorough eye examination. We do of course carry out a sight test to measure your refraction – this is similar to the test you might have had previously at your optician. We then commence our more detailed analysis of your eyes starting with state-of-the-art diagnostic scanners, chosen by David Gartry and carried out by one of our optometrists.
The first part of the more detailed examination involves measuring your corneal topography. This provides us with a ‘3D map’ of the surface of your cornea – you simply sit forward and look into the scanning machine for a matter of seconds.
After this, a series of detailed scans are taken using the iDesign Wavefront. This machine measures thousands of tiny imperfections in the eye and then creates a personalised treatment, like a unique fingerprint.
We then measure intraocular pressure using the Goldmann applanation tonometer. This is an important health check for your eyes as it measures the natural pressure in the eye, like a glaucoma test.
Lastly, we use some drops that will dilate your pupils so we can look at the full health of your eyes to determine if you are a suitable candidate for laser eye surgery.
You will need to allow around two hours for your consultation with us and as your eyes will have been dilated we advise not driving immediately afterward. At your consultation, you will have every opportunity to ask David Gartry personally whatever questions you might have about your surgery and we look forward to welcoming you to our clinic soon.
