I received fantastic care throughout the process and achieved a wonderful result. I was very shorted sighted (about -9.5 in each eye) and had thought for a long time that laser treatment was not possible for me. Then I read about LASEK which is a different procedure to the more commonly used one. Professor Gartry was very thorough at explaining the risk of residual short sightedness and whether there was a chance I would still need glasses given my high prescription to start with. He really made me go away and think it through properly. I decided that I really wanted it done as contact lenses had started to become difficult to wear. The actual surgery was pain free and Professor Gartry talked me through the process as it was happening. I thought I would feel frightened but actually it was all very calm. Recovery was exactly as they explained to me it would be and the discomfort in the first 3 days was very much helped by the eye drops and was very manageable (I did take a week off work as advised which helped a lot). It took about 6 weeks before my vision completely settled but during that time I was able to function perfectly well without any glasses or contact lenses and the final result was a zero prescription! I am delighted with how liberating this has been! The surgery and the advice given were both excellent and I would advise anyone having the surgery to think through the consequences properly and then follow the advice given about after care and healing exactly as it is set out.
