There has been a lot of discussion in the media recently about a surgical procedure developed by Dr Gregg Homer at the Strōma Medical Corportion in California that promises to turn any eye colour to blue. This type of laser eye surgery is very different from the refractive surgery performed at our clinic.
Using a laser to remove the pigment of the eye could potentially disrupt the drainage channels of the eye, increasing pressure and therefore leading to glaucoma.
It is important to note that laser eye surgery to correct sight is performed on the cornea, the surface of the eye. With The Strōma procedure the laser moves below the surface of the eye to disrupt the cells on the iris.
For information on our laser eye surgery procedure to correct vision please visit this section on our website.
Apart from the possibility of potentially sight-threatening glaucoma, potential patients (customers) should be aware that, to the best of our knowledge, none of the usual scientific studies and clinical trials have been performed to establish safety and efficacy.
