Like many, I would think, I was anxious about undergoing any surgery on one's eyes. I wanted to get the best advice possible, and I am very pleased to have met Prof. Gartry. I did have an advantage in that my wife worked at Moorfields and knew of his leadership in this field. By way of background, my passion is classic cars and motorcycles and enjoying their use on continental trips. Over the last few years my sight was deteriorating at a rate which meant these trips were less enjoyable – especially for spirited driving on demanding terrain. A practical aside is that I was spending a fortune on spectacles – pair for driving, a pair for reading plus sunglasses in each vehicle meant over 30 pairs. I dreaded each prescription change! David was very approachable and took great care to explain each stage of the process to set my mind at rest. Now, a few weeks after having both lenses replaced the improvements in my vision are stunning. Better than 20/20. Not just for driving, but near and intermediate ranges too. And no more spectacles! It really is life-changing, and my anxiety was unfounded.
