20-20 vision is his motto!

I had had RK done 30 years ago for short sightedness under Mr Arthur Steele and over the years become long-sighted.

My daughter recommended I see Professor Gartry as he had done her laser op for myopia some 5 years ago and she was very pleased with the result. It was with some trepidation that I ventured into his offices, expecting him to say he would be unable to do my eyes as I had already had Radial Keratotomy before and it might be too risky.

However, Prof Gartry is a giant and a legend. My condition did not phase him in the least. He had dealt with RK patients before and was willing to treat me. However, to be sure he got it absolutely right/precise, he sent me to an expert, Maria Restori who is a Consultant Physicist at Moorfields. She was amazing and very very good at precise eye measurements. She did a scan of both my eyes and spent a long time calculating the various measurements and depths etc.

On the day of the surgery, everything went smoothly. The first part of my surgery femtophako cataract surgery with a monofocal (single focus) lens implant is on youtube. For a month or so after the surgery, I had blurred vision. I panicked and called Prof Gartry’s office. The staff are all wonderful from Andrew to Jenny and Jolene, they all bend over backwards to accommodate you. As for the optometrist, Priya, she is highly skilled and very knowledgeable. Anyway, even though the Prof was very busy, they fitted me in and I was reassured that all was fine with the eye.
I just had to have patience as the scars (especially after the RK) were healing slowly.

Fast forward to three months later and my vision in the eye is better than 20-20.

Professor Gartry certainly knows his onions. I cannot recommend him and all his staff highly enough.
