“I wish I’d done this years ago. My right eye is perfect, my left eye slightly short of perfect with a bit of haziness, but I was informed that the unexpected benefit is that I won’t need glasses most likely for presbyopia I think it’s called, where in your 40s you require glasses for close up work. So the effect is that I will be glasses free for longer. I think the brochures offer a very balanced explanation of the process. I researched very carefully choice of surgeon and also my optician told me that David Gartry had a good accuracy record which a lot of other surgeons don’t, and that it is a procedure that can go wrong. I think my expectations were very well managed at the initial consultation, where it was explained that it’s not an exact science and that it can require repeat follow up. I did ask lots of questions and was told I might not be ready for the op, and maybe needed to think a bit more, which was interesting. Eventually I went ahead. I didn’t realise it only took 7 minutes for each eye, now that’s amazing and more people might have it done if they knew that. I think fear is the biggest thing that prevents people from doing this, but it was painless, only the eye clamp was the worst bit. I think it is very good indeed and I was reassured to be having this done at Moorfields, but also by David Gartry because of his commitment, vigilance to accuracy and quality. I would definitely recommend the service.”
