It’s roughly been a year since my LASEK surgery so now I feel is the best time to leave a review!

I was recommended by a work colleague to have my laser eye surgery done with David Gartry, as they previously had a great experience. I remember my initial consultation everything was very thorough and David was very kind and knowledgeable. He explained all my options and wasn’t pushy in any way to get the surgery. As someone who could not handle eye contacts, laser eye surgery was my only option if I no longer wanted glasses (-4 in both eyes).

I will not sugar coat it – laser eye surgery is a scary procedure – but the nursing staff at Moorfields were amazing at keeping me calm before going into the operating room. I was also given some medication to help relax me. The procedure was very quick and instantly (after my eyes adjusted) saw the results. My recovery period was fairly standard for LASEK (first three days being the hardest) – but I could contact the team at any time if I had any concerns and meet with David before the follow up appointment if needed. They were really accommodating for me (especially for the contact lens bandage removal!) and an overall top medical procedure experience.

My vision went from strength to strength following the operation. I did have some starbursting at night – but a year on from the surgery and they are very minimal now. I don’t need glasses now and I can wear whatever sunglasses I want! It’s hard to achieve 20/20 with laser eye surgery, but my outcome is incredibly close considering I was -4. I am so so thankful, you have changed my life <3

I will be recommending David to anyone who considers laser eye surgery from now on!

I had LASEK with Prof. Gartry back in January 2017 for my wedding. I was one of the small percentage of people not to achieve near perfect vision so had a complimentary top up. Now, 7.5 years later my prescription is 0 and -0.25 which im thrilled with. It is SO liberating to not need glasses. All those little things like reaching for your glasses in the night to pop to the bathroom or falling asleep in your contacts or glasses and loosing them in the bed. Gone. I’d recommend it to anyone suitable. It’s very straightforward, a quick and painless procedure. You don’t know prof Gartry is even performing the procedure there’s no burning or pain, just a noise.

You’re in excellent hands with Prof Gartry. If you can, do it. Be liberated. It’s a wonderful feeling.

I did LASEK here with wonderful results, despite high astigmatism. Professor Gartry carried out the procedure himself.

My prescription before the procedure was, approximately: -3.5 sphere and -3.5 cylinder in the right eye, -3 sphere and -4 cylinder in the left eye. After the procedure I’m at 0 in the right eye, +0.75 sphere and -0.75 cylinder in the left eye.

Another thing is the visual acuity. My unaided vision is close to 20/20, a bit better than it was with glasses (which was more like 20/25). This is more than I was hoping for.

Flawless experience with Professor Gartry and his team. I got LASEK laser eye surgery which has worked perfectly – I now have 20/20 vision – and Professor Gartry was really lovely and supportive throughout the surgery itself, which I was a bit nervous for. He came highly recommended to us from family friends, and I would not hesitate to highly recommend him too!

I had grown up wearing glasses and my Dad was the same. About 30 years ago my Dad visited Mr Gartry and got his vision sorted. I always wanted to have the opportunity to correct my eyesight and when my Dad mentioned revisiting Mr Gartry it was a no brainer. Since having the surgery done I can confidently say that it’s changed my life and I will be forever grateful. Absolutely Amazing, couldn’t recommend highly enough.

Professor Gartry and his clinic is nothing short of excellence. My experience from start to finish was fantastic, timely and could not have been better. He advised me to have LASEK due to me doing lots of contact sports, martial arts and extreme sports. The recovery period is slightly longer but well worth it as I bruised my eye a few months later whilst snowboarding. It was just a burst blood vessel and nothing more serious. I called the clinic and they booked me in straight away when I got back. They checked over everything free of charge, and assured me my eyes were all good. its coming up to a year now of me having had my surgery and its still the best decision I’ve ever made.

I had my LASEK surgery with Professor Gartry and I couldn’t be more pleased with the result, having achieved air force standard vision.

The initial consultations gave me all the information I needed and once I decided to go ahead the procedure was scheduled quickly. I was a very nervous patient and had my eyes done separately but Professor Gartry was incredibly accommodating and got me through the procedure.

I can’t recommend him and his team enough.

EDIT: I’m now 6 months post-op and my life has changed completely. I’ve been able to go swimming in the sea with my son and keep an eye on him properly, I’ve been able to do things so much more easily day to day. Driving at night is also much more pleasant with less glare. As I said before, I can’t recommend this enough.

I do occasionally reach to take my glasses off at night still though, habits die hard!

I was very lucky to have Prof. Gartry look after me and my eyes on my recent LASEK surgery. You shouldn’t compromise on your eyes, so if you can, go to the best! Prof. Gartry showed so much care and gave so much reassurance. It was a genuine care. Everything about the whole process, all the explanations and after-care instructions was so thorough, that I had the upmost confidence that I was making the correct choice. My vision is now near perfect and it has been so freeing to not have to rely on any prescription glasses. Not a single regret about this all, and I can’t recommend Prof. Gartry enough!
