I first met Professor Gartry in 2007 to have- laser surgery for my life long shortsight and ended up with perfect vision for many years. The procedure had been painless and without any side effects so that, when , with age , cataracts developed I did not hesitate to return to Professor Gartry and his team at Moorfields Hospital. I’ve now got my perfect sight back again and would certainly recommend Professor Gartry and his team for the whole procedure and the care and attention I received throughout.

The whole experience from beginning to end was superb with a superb result so if you are reading this I urge you to look no further than Professor David Gartry as your eye surgeon. You will see from many articles on the internet that he is world renowned and a supremely experienced eye surgeon. He is also a lovely laid back person.

I had cataracts so as they had to be removed and as I am a sailor, Mr. Gartry recommended multifocal lenses. The procedure at Moorfields consisted of a laser to soften the cataract ( very 60’s psychadelic and the green one was especially beuatiful! ) followed by sedation before the 20 minute operation which seemed like 7 – 10 minutes. At no point was it painful, the local anaesthetic was only slightly uncomfortable and the ‘worst’ part as the anaesthetist told me it would be, but even that was really not a problem. The staff were all superb and after having the first one done I was looking forward to returning to Moorfields the following week for the 2nd eye. Can I have my third eye done too now?? Would have no problem going back and its far easier than the dentist. The results are unbelievable with distance and close up being really clear – the only problem is I can now see every bit of dirt in my house and how old I really look !! The yellow haze has now gone and I can drive really easily at night time in the rain with no more ‘splaying’ from headlights. I had no problems following either procedure and really can’t believe now just how bad my eyes had got.

Last Saturday, a month after the second eye, I spent 8 hours on a RHIB on the Thames as it was BSAC’s 70th Anniversary and along with 20 other RHIBS we delivered a cheque to the RNLI. I could clearly see every building and person along the length of the Thames from Erith to Embankment, going from Industrial to Historical and the Present. Amazing – no glasses, no contact lenses. Thank you so much to all involved. I have found a new freedom and feel really lucky to be living now so I could benefit from this wonderful technology.

I cannot fault the care , attention & service that I have received from The Wimpole Eye Clinic & Professor David Gartry .

My experience of diagnosis & subsequent lens replacement in both eyes , due to cataracts , has been life transforming .

It was so important to receive all the personal attention , & written explanations of my conditions & exactly what would happen at every stage . This  gives great confidence & peace of mind to  the patient!

I found every member of the Wimpole Eye clinic team to be very well informed, exemplary in the role they played .

At every stage I was given information , I was treated very kindly , but also the professionalism was very noticeable.

Professor Gartry himself seems to allow time for every patient to spend the right amount of time with him personally  too. A very skilled team & I would recommend  them to any of my contemporaries!

I had cataract removal and lens replacement in both eyes in July 2023.. The results are excellent. First time in my life I have no need of glasses or contacts . I was extremely anxious but Prof Gartry’s expertise and kindness allowed me to feel assured with both operations just a week apart.

I cannot thank Prof Gartry and his team at Moorfields enough, their skill and advice made the whole procedure almost routine! Thank you all so much.

I chose Professor Gartry for cataract surgery after careful evaluation. I am completely satisfied with the treatment on both of my eyes and delighted with the results. The whole process was smooth and efficient. All issues and options open to me were explained clearly in layperson’s language along with the costs entailed. The support staff were also very professional and prompt with responses to any questions I had. Overall a very professional and friendly service. Excellent overall.

I had cataract surgery in July 2023. I have had a wonderful result, I can see so clearly for the first time that I can remember. Having worn glasses all my life, it is almost miraculous that I can see at distance, to read and to use screens (and to paint…I am an artist) so well without specs. The procedure was quick, painless and without anxiety. It is almost like a miracle. Moorfields Eye Hospital staff and facilities made the experience almost a pleasure. Professor Gartry explained everything; I felt confident at every stage. Thank you to his office and to the hospital.

Dear David and Team,

Having had the final stitch removed today it may be the last time I see you and your lovely team.

I would like to pass on my huge gratitude to all of you. I could not have been in better hands all round.

If I don’t see you again  I wish you all the best.

Kind regards,

Chris

Comprehensive, expert and reassuring pre-assessment, operation and post-operative check-ups. Also, I appreciated the efficiency and speed of the whole process, including appointments.

I had a double cataract operation with Dr. Gartry in April at Moorfields, with one week between both interventions.

I had high myopia with high astigmatism and therefore was nervous how to recover my sight, which was decreasing with the cataract.

The prescription prior to the cataract  surgery was:      Right :-       – 10.00/ -4.00 x 70            Left:-          -8.00/-2.75 x 100

Dr Gartry explained the operation choices and let me decide. I went for a Femto second Laser-assisted cataract surgery with toric lens implant.  The operation was not painful, just discomfortable. I could see the next day and got even better within a month.

The result is thoroughly impressive, especially with the colours: I can’t believe I was seeing like through a dirty glass for so many years.

I am now 20/20 with right  eye, and only  -1 DS with the left eye with my  high astigmatism is now virtually nil!!, “ coming from-10.00 and -8.50! Quite an accomplishment.

I felt supported and understood all along by the professor as well as the team and they answered all my questions very patiently.

I would recommend Professor Gartry and Moorfields, without hesitation.

I am very grateful; it was a life changing operation.

In January 2023 a routine eye examination found the sight in my left eye had deteriorated. A letter of referral was forwarded by me to David Gartry for comment. He agreed that YAG laser treatment was necessary. Early March I had the treatment on both eyes. The procedure was clearly communicated and was painless, resulting in an immediate improvement in vision. I cannot speak too highly of David and his team, consummate professionals all. Don’t delay if YAG laser treatment is advised. I would still be awaiting a consultation with the NHS under any other circumstances. My sight is too important to delay treatment. I made the right decision.
