You can’t really appreciate how the onset of cataract has the ability to dim colours until you have gone through a procedure to correct it. So, to walk out of Moorfields on a sunny afternoon after my second op. was truly eye-opening (sorry!). To see blue sky and red buses as they should be was very uplifting. Now in my 70’s, I have worn different prescription specs for long distance, computer and reading since primary school (-10 in one eye and not much better in the other) so my view of the world was different to most people. What a revelation now. Yes, I still need readers for small print but can read a menu without them – but who thought I would now be driving without glasses. I was barely legal before with them!

Prof Gartry won’t promise what he feels may not be possible, so my expectations were not sky high but I now have -0.75 short sight, no cataract and my astigmatism has been corrected to boot. Is that not amazing?

David Gartry is with you all the way, from his initial meeting, talking you through the surgery whilst it is happening, which is very reassuring, and personally conducting follow-up consultations. I experienced no pain or discomfort, during or after, the whole procedure. He performs his operations using state-of-the-art technology many others choose not to use and he works with a caring, professional team both at the clinic and Moorfields. Highly, highly recommended.
