My eyesight has been poor since the age of ten, and I have always needed strong varifocal contact lenses or glasses. Now, in my sixties, after David Gartry’s surgery, I have 20:20 vision. My eyesight has never been better. I have no need of glasses. My husband jokes that I have bionic eyes now. The world has come alive in sharp colours.

What took me to Wimpole eye clinic was an aggressive cataract in both eyes which led to a rapid loss of vision. I was seen really quickly, and the operation (each eye was a week apart) arranged swiftly. The whole team was brilliant. The preparation and follow-up were fantastic. I wanted for nothing. I was an anxious patient but Professor Gartry and the nurses were really understanding and put me at ease. This is a world-class clinic offering the latest cutting edge treatment but care for the patient is at the heart of what they do, and I feel enormously privileged and grateful to have been treated by them. Life really does look different now.

I had a wonderful experience with Professor Gartry. I was short sighted in both eyes and he suggested LASIK in only one eye, allowing me monovision meaning I don’t need glasses for either long distance or reading. It all worked perfectly and I am very happy with the outcome!

I did LASEK here with wonderful results, despite high astigmatism. Professor Gartry carried out the procedure himself.

My prescription before the procedure was, approximately: -3.5 sphere and -3.5 cylinder in the right eye, -3 sphere and -4 cylinder in the left eye. After the procedure I’m at 0 in the right eye, +0.75 sphere and -0.75 cylinder in the left eye.

Another thing is the visual acuity. My unaided vision is close to 20/20, a bit better than it was with glasses (which was more like 20/25). This is more than I was hoping for.

Everyday I wake up so pleased I decided to go ahead with laser eye surgery. My day-to-day life has become so much more easier and am able to participate in things I was too scared to before such as swimming and spa days. Professor Gartry and team were professional, friendly and helpful throughout the whole process.
