Very happy with my experience. I had lasek surgery with David Gartry and my vision went from almost -8 in both eyes to 20-20 vision in both eyes! I was given all of the information I needed and talked through every step in the process and I’m so happy I decided to go for it!

I had the absolute pleasure of being treated by Dr David Gartry for eye laser surgery, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the exceptional care I received. From the moment I stepped into the clinic, Professor Gartry’s professionalism and expertise were evident. During the surgery, Professor Gartry took the time to explain every step of the procedure, putting me at ease and ensuring I had complete confidence in his skills. The surgery itself wasn’t as bad as I thought, thanks to his precision and attention to detail.

What truly sets Professor Gartry apart is his genuine commitment to patient care. He was not only a masterful surgeon but also a compassionate and reassuring presence throughout the entire process. I left the clinic with improved vision and a profound sense of gratitude for Professor Gartry’s outstanding work.

I highly recommend Professor Gartry to anyone seeking eye laser surgery. His expertise, clear communication, and unwavering dedication to patient well-being make him a top-tier choice for vision correction. Thank you, Professor Gartry, for the gift of improved sight and a truly exceptional surgical experience.

The whole experience from beginning to end was superb with a superb result so if you are reading this I urge you to look no further than Professor David Gartry as your eye surgeon. You will see from many articles on the internet that he is world renowned and a supremely experienced eye surgeon. He is also a lovely laid back person.

I had cataracts so as they had to be removed and as I am a sailor, Mr. Gartry recommended multifocal lenses. The procedure at Moorfields consisted of a laser to soften the cataract ( very 60’s psychadelic and the green one was especially beuatiful! ) followed by sedation before the 20 minute operation which seemed like 7 – 10 minutes. At no point was it painful, the local anaesthetic was only slightly uncomfortable and the ‘worst’ part as the anaesthetist told me it would be, but even that was really not a problem. The staff were all superb and after having the first one done I was looking forward to returning to Moorfields the following week for the 2nd eye. Can I have my third eye done too now?? Would have no problem going back and its far easier than the dentist. The results are unbelievable with distance and close up being really clear – the only problem is I can now see every bit of dirt in my house and how old I really look !! The yellow haze has now gone and I can drive really easily at night time in the rain with no more ‘splaying’ from headlights. I had no problems following either procedure and really can’t believe now just how bad my eyes had got.

Last Saturday, a month after the second eye, I spent 8 hours on a RHIB on the Thames as it was BSAC’s 70th Anniversary and along with 20 other RHIBS we delivered a cheque to the RNLI. I could clearly see every building and person along the length of the Thames from Erith to Embankment, going from Industrial to Historical and the Present. Amazing – no glasses, no contact lenses. Thank you so much to all involved. I have found a new freedom and feel really lucky to be living now so I could benefit from this wonderful technology.

I visited Professor Gartry to discuss the possibility of having a refractive lens exchange, as I was fed up of wearing reading glasses and constantly taking them on and off. There was only ever one place I would trust to carry out a procedure on my eyes and the was Moorfields, and Prof.Gartry came highly recommended.

I found him to be very kind and approachable putting you immediately at ease. He’s obviously extremely knowledgeable and during his consultation is honest about the possible outcomes of having the procedure done. He encourages you to go away and read the information he provides and digest everything before making a decision, so there’s no pressure on the day to book anything.

Once I’d decided to go ahead with the procedure, everyone I came into contact with were exceptional in their care of me. This includes Christine, Professor Gartry’s secretary, the optometrists, my anaesthetist Dr Jonathan Lord & all the staff at Moorfields.

I was understandably very nervous of having my 1st eye done but I needn’t have been. The staff and Prof. Gartry were reassuring every step of the way and explained what I would see during the procedure. Nothing scary as I thought but either pretty flashing lights or nothing. When it came to doing my 2nd eye a wk later, I had no worries or fears at all and was completely relaxed throughout.

If you are considering having any procedures carried out on your eyes, I can not recommend Prof. Gartry highly enough. He’s kind, caring and knowledgeable and leaves you feeling and knowing that you’re in the best hands possible.

Tl;dr – Prof Gartry and his team help me achieve better vision than expected.

Breakdown:
Procedure: 10/10 (would give more if I could)
Efficiency: 10/10
Flexibility: 10/10
Attentiveness: 10/10

My laser surgery performed within a week of my initial consultation with the team has achieved 6/4.8 – this is better than 20/20 vision. So obviously, despite short few days of normal discomfort following the procedure and a touch of night time dryness (also common and not usually a lasting problem), I think the whole process couldn’t have gone better.

I had a minor correction to make. Interestingly this doesn’t make the surgery any easier, but the expectations are much higher.

As a final year in my medical studies, there are two things I’d like to point out: The first is that this clinic is run as if it’s pasted from a medical textbook (ie essentially exactly what you’d expect from a modern, high-end clinic), but with all the charm of Harley street (welcoming receptionists and professional trainees, in a comfortable environment – surgery is in the UK greatest eye hospital Moorfields ). The second is that it’s obviously pretty incredible to be managed and operated on by the man who was the first to perform the procedure in the UK, so probably has the most experience in the country. Worth every penny even at Harley Street prices.

Cannot recommend the team at Wimpole Eye Clinic more. In fact I’m pushing my brother to do it next month.

I cannot thank Professor David Gartry enough. He has given me the gift of unaided sight not once but twice now. He is not only incredibly talented but also generous, caring, humble and kind. I first had LASIK surgery in October 2012 which transformed my life. Professor Gartry explained at the time that it is not possible to halt the natural aging process and the effect that has on your vision. Despite me not thinking I would age – I did! I enjoyed incredible unaided vision for the next 10 years but then required glasses for reading and a different set for driving. The mention of varifocals spurred me on to reach out to Professor Gartry again. He was able to perform a miracle for the second time, this time via LASEK surgery and through his fine tuning he was able to make the refinements to my vision which have once again left be able to see clearly both close-up and distance without the need for glasses. The procedures are very different, as is the recovery process but Professor Gartry and his team provided me with all the resources, guidance (and drops) needed and their experience and knowledge was exceptional. My vision has yet again been transformed and I would never trust my eyes and sight to anyone other than Professor Gartry.

I have zero regrets getting laser eye surgery with David Gartry. I was extremely short-sighted (i.e. around -11, effectively -13 in one eye due to astigmatism) and Gartry was hopeful he could get me down to around -2, which sounded great – but amazingly I’m nearly at 0, i.e. nearly 20-20 vision.

I felt reassured and safe throughout the process, and Gartry was fantastically reassuring during the procedure itself. The after-care has been to an excellent standard.
