Research Spotlight

In addition to performing over 20,000 LASIK procedures David Gartry has published many research articles and papers, many of which are cited by other surgeons and academics. The prestigious online resource ‘Research Gate‘ which links researchers from around the globe recently highlighted David Gartry’s achievement in having his article, ‘The effect of topical corticosteroids on refraction and corneal haze following excimer laser treatment of myopia: An update. A prospective, randomised, double-masked study’, downloaded 100 times.

Having looked at a number of surgeons and options for eye surgery, I was sceptical that my -7.5 prescription could be treated effectively. Having seen Mr Gartry and team, his assessment indicated that I would be a good candidate for the procedure. I elected for the LASIK surgery and can honestly say that it has been life changing. The operation was over very quickly, the aftercare and explanation of what I needed to do in the following months was clear and the results have been outstanding. The whole experience was fantastic from beginning to end. I was nervous but they (the staff and Dr Gartry) talk you through everything and are happy to answer any and as many questions as you might have. On the day you are really looked after and everything is explained again. You are talked through the drops you need to take for aftercare and then through the surgery. Dr Gartry has a lovely manner and calmly explains the whole process as he does it. It doesn’t hurt and it’s all over in twenty minutes, after which things are blurry but you can still see! Three months later and I have had no issues and can see perfectly without lenses or glasses – what more could you want? Thank you!

Very impressed with the entire process from start to finish. Could never get contacts in due to blink reflex but had no issues with the surgery. Initially had a -2.25/-2.5 prescription, now better than 20/20. Only real inconvenience was a bit of dry eye for few weeks after the surgery, but pretty much completely gone after 3 months. Surgery itself is quick and painless, and Dr Gartry was excellent at keeping me informed of what was happening throughout, which reduced any anxiety I had. Would definitely do it again!
